The Building Industry and Land Development Association, known as ‘BILD’, is the voice of the home building, land development and professional renovation industry in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The industry that BILD represents, designs, sells and builds complete communities and cities where people work, play, shop and live.
It has over 1,450 member companies, collecting representing all corners of the industry, including: home builders, land developers, professional renovators, financial services, trade contractors, manufacturers and suppliers of all types of home-related products.
As a non-profit, industry funded organization that works to improve the communication between the industry and government, BILD provides enhanced opportunities for members, promoting the welfare of the industry, and protecting interests of consumers. Its mission is to enhance the health, vitality and reputation of the home building, residential and non-residential land development, and professional renovation industry.
BILD is the largest home builders’ Association In Canada, and all members are affiliated with the Ontario Home Builder’s Association and The Canadian Home Builders Association. It’s history began when the Toronto Home Builders’ Association was established in 1921. The original five Toronto builders first met to discuss development fees and charges, and formed an association that has been representing both the industry and influencing public policy development for almost a century.
In the 1950s, the Association expanded into consumer home shows, launching the National Home Show in 1950 and the Fall National Home Show in 1988. After many years of co-ownership, in 2014, BILD became the sole owner and operator of the National Home Show, Toronto Fall Home Show and the GTA Home & Reno Show.
In 2001, the association created the RenoMark™ to help consumers identify professional renovators committed to high standards and who follow a Code of Conduct. RenoMark™ is now used to distinguish professional renovators in more than 40 municipalities and 9 provinces across Canada.
In 2006, members of the Greater Toronto Home Builders Association and the Urban Development Institute/Ontario voted to merge the two organizations in order to better serve the industry through a united presence.
In 2007, the newly merged organization was renamed ‘BILD’ or The Building Industry and Land Development Association.
