Many years ago, while working in the construction business I learned the importance of selecting the right tool for each task that needed to be done. There is no better place to learn the significance of the right choice for a tool in construction. Just imagine trying to poor concrete without a wheelbarrel or using a hammer to grout ceramic tiles. Well, regarldess of having learned this early in my life, I have more than once found myself using the wrong tool for a task. Usually when this happens I find myself asking why the task is taking so long, or not getting the results I want.
This is where I found myself not to long ago when I had chosen an individual to perform a certain task. After some contemplation I realized the problem was that I had chosen the wrong individual. Nothing wrong with the individual and the task at hand wasn’t all that difficult, but I had gotten a little careless and chosen the wrong person for the task.
So, how did I realize this? By using a chainsaw to cut some trees. You see, this past weekend I had to remove some large trees from my property. After a previous attempt where it took me much too long to cut a branch I decided to rent a chainsaw. Five hours later I stood in front of a mountain of bundled branches and logs neatly piled by the curb. What would have taken me an hour to cut with a hand saw, I was able to do in less 5 minutes.
A simple $65 investment in the rental of a chainsaw saved me days of muscle aching labour. Now that’s a tool! So, now I’m thinking what power tool can I rent to help me with the rest of my life.
